See answer: Most patients can undergo this procedure, which can often be done with IV sedation as opposed to general anesthesia. Patients must be off  blood thinners (eg, aspirin, plavix, coumadin, (warfarin) pradaxa) and have no active infection. Success rates are best in stones less than 2 cm. Anatomic abnormalities (eg, ureteral stricture or horseshoe kidney) must be taken into account.

Common causes include anything which causes physical, mental, or emotional stress, weight issues, medications, over-exercising, and even a change in one's regular routine.  If no period, would recommend a second pregnancy test 1 week after the first negative test along with a call to your ob-gyn md.

Use Laser: Some types of stones do not fracture well with shockwave lithotripsy.  If the stone needs to be treated then either ureteroscopy (scope from bladder up ureter) with laser can be used or a scope through the back directly into the kidney  can be used.  The latter procedure is for larger stones, usually over 2cm, and is called percutaneous nephrolithotomy (pcnl).

Depends: Stones fragments may never completely pass on their own.

Better chance of passing if an easily fragmented stone.

Better chance if located within the upper portion of the kidney or within the ureter.

Less chance if located in the lower portion of the kidney.

Kidney stone : Your chances of making another stone are greater then someone who has never had a stone but it is by no means assured.  See your urologist and review xrays to see if any other stones are already present in the kidneys.  If not, ask for specific prevention measures to adopt.  Start by drinking enough liquid to make 2 liters of urine per day.  Dietary restrictions are based on stone composition.

Usually No: You're generally asleep during the procedure and shouldn't feel anything. You can ask your doctor what type of sedation will be provided to ensure you are not feeling the shock waves. After the procedure, you might have some bruising on your skin and around the kidney
