I would encourage: you to tell your doctor all of the side effects you are experiencing as well as how much progress you have or haven't made with your symptoms.  Your doctor may work to optimize your medications based o your input.  Hopefully you are working with a psychiatrist. Take care.

ECT: Ect is usually only used when all other attempts to treat depression fail. It is generally regarded as safe today as the voltage is less than in the past but the mechanism by which it works is still not entirely clear.Some patients complain of minor memory loss but it is variable depending on your age and level of health. Carefully weigh whteter or not this treatment will work for you.

Adverse events: Not a side effect. Most antidepressants have a warning about (not frequent) potential to worsen depression or associate with suicidal ideas. Meds are approved for an indication everytime they showed to be effective in the vast majority of the cases, with acceptably low rate of side effects and adverse events. People respond differently for many reasons (genetic, health status, etc).

SAM-e: Therapeutic dosing of sam-e runs between a total 800mg - 1600mg/day -- usually given in divided doses with meals, 2-3 times/day. Sam-e is usually well tolerated, but nausea & vomiting can result.

Depression: You're not the only one with the same problem. A couple of considerations - first, there's a chance it may not be just depression. Chances are it's more than depression. Secondly, if it is depression, it's not just about medication to treat it. There must be a comprehensive approach to it - psychotherapy, support group, etc. I find that people would rather take a pill without resolving the cause.

Not cured : But can be effectively treated with medications that have no to very little side effects (viagra, Cialis levitra, (vardenafil) some topicals, and many more on the horizon). Testosterone replacement therapy may mimic a cure if the specific medication under question has led to low natural testosterone.

Depression: with attention all disorders can be difficult to diagnose and manage.  I typically will do 3 hours of formal neuropsych testing in addition to a 90 minute consult before recommending pharmacotherapy. Gastrointestinal: Well commonly used name in usa is zoloft or sertraline. Common side effects are gastrointestinal like nausea, diarrhea, vomiting. Sexual s. E. Dry mouth, drowzyness or dizziness. Some reports of increased suicidal ideations etc.

Accepted Answer

Agomelatine: Valdoxan (agomelatine) is not sold in the us, but online sources report it is non-addictive.  It should not be taken in the presence of kidney or liver disease.  Saroxat is paroxetine (sold as Paxil in the us).  The 2 meds can be taken together although they can both be sedating.

Side effects: Other than allergy to the medication the only really serious side effect with Zoloft (sertraline) is that it can very rarely cause suicidal thoughts in some people(usually children and young adults).  Otherwise, side effects are usually relatively minor: upset stomach, decreased libido, impaired or delayed ejaculation, dry mouth, drowsiness, agitation, insomnia.  Many of the side effects go away with time.
