i do not have bipolar disorder. i do have recurrent major depression, severe. why would my psychiatrist prescribe lithium and geodon (ziprasidone)?

Mood disorder: Many argue that many cases of depression are a form of bipolar disease.  specially if your mood fluctuates.  instead of going from extreme highs to lows, you go from lows without going into highs,  so many treat depression as a form of bipolar disease.  What drugs you go on depends on how high or low you go.  I would have to know more about your case.

Should be ok, but..: Since prescription lithium carbonate is safe to take with Geodon (ziprasidone), (ziprasidone) I don't see why lithium orotate would be a problem to take with Geodon (ziprasidone) as well. Just be careful as lithium orotate is not approved by the FDA for the treatment of any medical condition and one study suggested it might actually hurt the kidneys.

Not surprising: Your medications have huge anti-cholinergic potential adverse effects, and does not surprise me if you are experiencing cognitive consequences.  Do you really need all of these meds?  Have a conference with your doctor and sort this out.

Tums or Prilosec: Either Tums or Prilosec are safe options to treat heartburn. There are no significant drug interactions for either of them. Prilosec gives more reliable acid suppression. Note: if you have to take it longer than two weeks, you’re going to want to loop your doctor in for further evaluation. If it’s simple heartburn, s/he should know anyway; if not, something more serious should be ruled out.

Try to avoid it: You should try to avoid grapes or grapefruit while on Geodon (ziprasidone). When the drug is swallowed, some of it is broken down to inactive form by enzymes. Grape juice can interfere with the action of those enzymes so more of the drug can be absorbed, This can lead to some heart problems while on Geodon (ziprasidone).
