Cough: Prinivil (lisinopril) is part of a drug class called an ace inhibitor.  The more common side effects associated with this medicine is cough and a mild elevation in potassium.   More side effects are angioedema (swelling of your tongure and larynx area) and renal failure.

Lisinopril: Lisinopril is an effective high BP medicine. It's greatest effective is using the 40 mg dose/day. It also reduces protein in the urine and does so the most when the 40 mg dose is used. It's side effectives are mostly a cough,  which is non-productive at night. It may also cause angioneurotic edema. The frequency of the side effects are not related to the strength of the dose. User dependent: Both Benicar (olmesartan) and Lisinopril are used to treat high blood pressure.  Both block the effects of angiotension--a hormone that causes constriction of blood vessels and increases blood pressure.  Lisinopril has been available for several years and is available as a generic (cheaper) but can cause an annoying cough.  Benicar (olmesartan) is a newer drug and is more expensive.  Both can cause high potassium levels.
