HSV-1: The herpes simplex virus 1 (hsv-1) is not sexually transmitted and is very common, detectable in most individuals.  This virus is the cause for the common "cold sore" or lip blisters. Topical creams and even anti-viral medications can help shorten the duration of the illness.  Best wishes.

Maybe: In general herpes is very painful.  However, it varies depending on the stage that you notice them.  At the vesicular stage or bubbles, they may not hurt as much but when they turn into blisters, they are very painful as the nerve endings are exposed.  If they are already blistering and still non-painful, they are probably not herpes but another infections or condition altogether.

Testing: Herpes presents on the lip as a blister as part of the cycle, the liquid or serum will be contagious with hsv i. If the blister is of non-viral origin, the liquid (serum) will not contain the virus. The only way of knowing for sure is to be tested for the herpes virus. It is extremely common (50-80% of people have it), recurring episodes will happen throughout life.

Herpes: It certainly is possible that you have herpes.  It can be transmitted through kissing and usually presents as blisters.  You should probably see your dermatologist.

You don't: As common as HSV1, the cause of herpes is, the possibility of it being herpes is high.  You can have a test done by your doc to be sure.  Good oral hygeine and lack of intimate contact until you do know would be prudent.
