Naturally dark?: Naturally dark skin is genetically determined, and runs in the family. A person gets darker after being in the sun, and lighter when out of the sun. If one is the same color as one's parents, siblings, and other relatives in the racial group, then one's color is most likely normal. If one is much darker than other family members, then a primary care doctor can evaluate for a hormonal problem.

Two questions: (1) Topical benzoyl peroxide as tolerated will clear mild acne and is the basis to which your physician may add a prescription-strength Rx. (2) Don't do it other than using sunscreen. Bleaches can disfigure you and here in the US where trends are set, wanting to change skin color is considered the height of ignorance. Cherish what Nature gave you; it's you &amp; those who love you won't want change.

No: Skin quality not type or color will determine its response to trauma. During waxing, the top, dead layer of skin may get removed with the hair. Skin that is excessively dry or already damaged (sun, chemicals, certain medications, disease) is at much higher risk to further damage from trauma. Moisturize once or twice daily and avoid excessive sunlight to keep healthy, supple skin.

Sunburn: Leave it alone. Its already damaged skin. Next time try to protect yourself.

Don't try it, Norma: Please don't try to change the color of your skin. Sunscreen can prevent darkening from tanning. But any chemicals that you try to use will disfigure you -- it simply will not look right or natural. In the US, which sets world trends, judging by skin color is the hallmark of the worst ignorance. Embrace whatever Nature gave you, and remember that good looks are 95% fitness, which you control.

This needless worry causes significant stress and postpones the cultivation of self esteem and pride in one's self that should be part of the goal of growing up. If you want to...: ...Lighten your skin tone cosmetically, a variety of otc skin lighteners are available. (avoid the foreign-made ones containing mercury, which are dangerous.) if you have vitiligo and you want to permanently bleach the skin that is not affected, benoquin (monobenzone) can be prescribed by a dermatologist.

Light areas: Changes in skin tone (hypopigmentation, in this case) may be caused by vitiligo -- i recommend a visit to your doctor, who may send you to a dermatologist.

Not by that much: Topical only! hydroquinone will do it, but is pretty irritating and you will have to be extremely devoted...And you may well not be satisfied with the results. Hair? Well, you can't really affect it's growing shade safely. Are you looking for a major "transformation"? It's hard to transform one's "inner attitude", but that's the most effective and most long-lasting way-most attractive to others.

Light skin: For lighter skin – always protect your skin. 1. Use a broad spectrum sun screen with a high SPF. Apply as often as needed. 2. Wears hat or other clothing to protect skin from Sun’s UV rays. 3. Try to avoid mid-day sun.  A medication like hydroquinone may take months to work and usually it’s use would be limited to a particular site on the body.
