Postmenopausal : Postmenopausal bleeding should always be assessed by a doctor. A doctor will perform a pap smear and pelvic examination and may do a blood test to check hormone levels. The vaginal bleeding could be attributed to (but not limited to) a hormonal change, the presence of cervical polyps, vaginitis or endometrial cancer.

Pelvic pain requires and examination to help organize the evaluation. When you see your obgyn you can also discuss your irregular menstrual cycle.

Hard to guess: It can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some of the symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. A urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result if done correctly. One can test about 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred) or 1 week after having a "weird" period. An Ob-Gyn doctor can evaluate if persistent or worrisome symptoms.

Depends: It  is  not uncommon  to  have  an  abnormal  period once.  Stress strenuous  exercise, medical problem  like diabetes  or  thyroid condition are  a  few  reasons one might  have repeated  episodes of   abnormal menses.  See your  md,  if  appropriate  do a pregnancy test.

Definitely: Being over weight - OR underweight - is one of the most common reasons for irregular menstrual cycles in women.
