With: enzyme supplements and close medical supervision ..(certain medications should be avoided as well as ALCOHOL) there is no reason why a full lifespan can be attained!

Epigastric pain: Chronic pancreatitis is caused by chronic inflammation of the pancreas.  No matter what the cause, the danger lies in the complications that can arise such as pancreatic-pseudo  -cyst, decrease exocrine and endocrine function.  Eventually, the pancreas will not work at all and you will have to take the enzymes that it usually produces to help in the digestion process.  Treat symptoms . Watch etoh.

Cannot answer: It is impossible to acurately predict life expectancy. However, chronic pancreatisits is often related to alcohol dependency. Congratulations for stopping drinking. Addictions can be challenging. I recommend that you get help to remain sober.

If severe, people are at-risk at 3 different times: early on, factors are released into the body that can depress many organs' function--if chronically ill, this can be dangerous; middle phase problems arise from pancreatic necrosis, sometimes requiring surgery; late phase problems tend to be infectious in origin, often following surgery.

: You are likely no more at risk for pancreatitis than anyone who has never consumed alcohol. Excessive, longterm alcohol consumption is certainly risk factor, which is not your case. Obesity, smoking &amp; family history are other pancreatitis risk factors.

i have chronic pancreatitis and at first believed this were causing my severe back pain. however, in absence of a flare up, severe back pain in lower/middle area continues, affects daily life. helped by diazepam. what could be causing this? thanks?

: You may have spine problem and paraspinal muscle spasm which are completely separated from chronic pancreatitis. Diazepam can be helpful because it relieves the spasm somewhat but this should not be used because of its addicted effect. You need a spine exam and CT or MRI of the thoracolumbar area for a correct diagnosis and treatment.
