can amox-clav cause small amount of hives? and should i be worried? i've taken amoxicillin before with no reaction. i'm already allergic to levaquin (levofloxacin).

Hives: Any medication can cause hives. If you think the medicine is the cause of the hive it should be stopped immediately.  Allergic reactions happen on subsequent exposures to a medication and not usually on the first exposure.  Stop the medicine, take antihistamines.  Report the reaction to your doctor.  Seek immediate care for shortness of breath, facial swell, trouble swallowing.

can a middle ear infection be treated by levaquin (levofloxacin) 500mg qd x7 days? i know amoxicillin is preffered but will levaquin (levofloxacin) work?

Not ideal dosing.: Levaquin (levofloxacin) is indeed effective at killing the most common bacteria that cause middle ear infection (acute otitis media). In fact, it is often used as a second-line treatment for acute otitis media in patients who have already had amoxicillin within the past month. However, the recommended dosing for adults is 750 mg per day for 5 days.

Yes: You can take Amoxicillin and Levofloxacin at the same time.

what is the difference between amoxicillin and levofloxacin antibiotics?

Accepted Answer

Totally different: Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic.  Levofloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic.  They are chemically unrelated, have different modes of action against the bacterial cell and have different antibacterial spectrums of activity.

was prescribed leviquin 500mg 1x daily for treatment of bronchitis/pneumonia but may have strep... can i take leviguin and amoxicillin 875mg 2x daily?

Just take Levaquin (levofloxacin) : There is no need to double on the two meds. Just take the Levaquin, (levofloxacin)  which will also treat the sore throat, if it's bacterial.  Otherwise,  the sore throat could be viral, which most are, and only time will take it away.

unfortunately my gps prescribed me amoxicillin four times in last year. (last on 14th may). now i have sinusitis (levofloxacin doesn't work well in 14 days) and prescribed once more augment

Yes, but: Yes, if it was effective last time, it should be effective now.
But, with recurrent sinusitis, you should see an ENT surgeon to see if there is a mechanical obstruction which can be fixed endoscopically. Better long term plan.

Perhaps: You need a test of cure when completed regimen. Now you may need to be scoped. You must be sure the h pylori is eradicated

What: Not sure what you mean by kill hungry bacteria. The triple treatment for H Pylori usually is at least 90% effective

Accepted Answer

I believe that: your symptoms of abdominal pain is not related to your antibiotic use.  You should consult with your doctor to investigate other causes.
