i got pins and needles in my leg while standing and i fell over. today top of leg feels bruised but there is no bruising. worth getting checked?

Get it checked: Pins and needles in the leg implies nervous system disorder. Etiology for this could be peripheral( pinched nerve in the leg), or higher up such as spinal cord and brain pathology(lumbar disc disease, stroke, TIA and many others ) some  serious some not so serious. Very diffult without more info but should definitely go get this checked out. This symptom may be a warning sign of a stroke to come.

However, some sensory nerves in the thigh may be entrapped under the inguinal ligament causing  discomfort in the lateral aspect of the thigh. This could be triggered by leg stretching. Damaged valves: Veins return blood to the heart and lungs for cleaning. Like fish ladders, veins have one way valves inside them every 4 to 6 cm to assist in, return to heart, flow against gravity. If one or more sets of valves becomes damaged, from clots, pressure or trauma the venous blood leaks out into small side veins and slowly develop into varicosities that you can see and feel. Ok to get checked 4 clot.

If there was no trauma, the bruises mean either the blood vessels are abnormally fragile and break easily, there are too few platelets to help blood clot, or the blood is "thin" and not clotting fast enough. A doctor's evaluation may be needed to figure things out.
