Nucleic acid Test : Hiv is a RNA virus.  Nucleic acid testing (nat) is done to (1) detect virus for an early diagnosis after potential exposure; (2) donated blood to detect infection, (3) to measure the viral load in someone undergoing treatment for hiv.  Nat may be negative up to two weeks or so after acquiring infection. It is the most accurate of the tests for hiv.

There are many different tests (usually by various manufacturers) in different parts of the world, which happen to have different prevalences for various HIV strains.

HIV PCR testing: Yes.  This excellent new way of testing viruses is very sensitive. It is thought that the HIV pcr dna test can narrow the window to 14 to 21 days post exposure.

Asked and Answered: I believe this has been answered.  Hiv pcr testing while on pep is not in any way appropriate to diagnose HIV infection.  Once pep is stopped then HIV pcr testing is absolutely accurate three weeks after stopping the treatment.
