Causes can range from scarring from prior infections, trauma, fluid, infection, allergy, drowning, smoke inhalation, tumor, etc.

See your dr.: Opacity or density in chest can mean many things. Common density is pneumonia. Densities can represent tumors or nodules in lungs. Contusion, hemorrhage can be dense. Everything is taken in context of clinical symptoms, fever, cough, trauma, coughing up blood, etc. Your doctor should be able to come up with treatment by comparing xray findings and clinical signs and symptoms.

OK: Lung tissue that is not inflated (/aerated) is atelectatic (or "deflated"). When it occurs, it often does so across a band or section of the lung, making it appear collapsed and sort of linear on chest xray. To make go away you need to take more deep breaths, but it is not concerning by itself.

Opacity: The opacity at the left lung base suggests possible early lower lobe pneumonia, which otherwise includes findings on the clinical exam, correlating history and symptoms, blood work and response to treatment. Serial imaging will be likely needed.

If : If it is truly calcified, then it means you have nothing to worry about. A granuloma is an area of inflammation or low-grade infection.  Once the infection or inflammation has resolved, it sometimes leaves behind some calcium, which on a chest xray is very dense (white). Calcified granulomas are not uncommon, especially among people who live in certain parts of the country where granuloma-forming organisms are found.

This finding should be correlated with clinical symptoms, and the image may take weeks to resolve. If you have COVID 19 or TB risk factors, please obtain screening. : All imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests.

Not long: if the infection had ascended to your kidneys, it might take a little longer to resolve.  If not beter in a couple more days, go back and be re-assessed.  Be well.

87 year old male , thoracentesis done , chest tube removed. now hospital is ok to discharge .latest chest x-ray-1. suspect small left pneumothorax.2. left lower lobe opacity increased compared to prior exam.3. small left pleural effusion. its ok?

: Timing for discharge remains extremely delicate as a variety of things will have to be in place. He will need tight follow up specifically for worsening changes in the lungs, left lower opacity. Performance status will be critical as well as rehab may be needed.
