Anxiety: How did you learn that your mitral valve is leaking?  People often worry about their health, especially those with ongoing anxiety.  Mitral valve prolapse is common, but often produces no leakage or symptoms.  Still, it can be anxiety-provoking to learn of a health issue -- is there a follow-up plan?  Is treatment suggested?  Your doctor may be able to answer your questions, and calm your anxiety.

prolapse vs leak: Mvp is a congenital disorder of the mitral valve where the collagen fibers that make up the valve are disorganized.  It may or may not be associated with leakiness of the valve, which is simply what it sounds like - leaking blood backwards through the valve.  People with mvp are more likely to develop leaky valves, but it's not a guarantee.  An echocardiogram can tell you how leaky it is.

No: Exercise such as walking does not adversely affect mitral valve disease, repaired or not.

Mitral leak: if the insufficiency is minimal,there shouldn't be a problem. Best course is to ask your doctor who has the information about your whole status.

No. : Slight leak in mitral valve can last for decades. So no need to worry before hand. All we recommend that younger to get that checked every year and see your heart doctor periodically.

"Loss of breath" ?'s: With the prevalence of Covid-19, shortness of breath is a common symptom even after the initial infection wanes.  Oxygen deprivation will cause cardiac irregularities on occasion, and if ECHO and stress test was normal with the exception of mild mitral valve insufficiencies, your symptoms should gradually subside.  Even testing for Covid as "negative" does not exclude this cause.

Slight leaky valve: this has happened over such a long period of time it does not sound like an acute process. Follow the recommendation of your cardiologist.

results: Results after surgery or other medical treatments is usually symptom control, safety, lower risk, durability and unfortunately not perfection, cure, or 100%.
