: It can, but unlikely. You have to  check your breast because of  this symptom.

i saw brown discharge or maybe blood on my night shirt 1 morning. got physical exam, u/s, mammo, and then biopsy done for cyst on l. breast. all benign. i dont know if blood really came from nipple. would there have been evidence on breast itself?

how do they do a biopsy on ovary cysts?

Surgery: If a surgeon wanted to do this then they would take biopsy scissors and remove a small piece of tissue to send to a pathologist to analyze it. This would be done in the operating room under general anesthesia using laparoscopically.

i had a u/s guided core needle biopsy done of a complicated cyst as my dr said he was being overly cautious. the cyst resolved during the procedure. what does this mean? what is the implication in terms of my results, if any? waiting for those?

: It would seem that the contents of the cyst were drained by the biopsy process which means the cyst collapsed and "resolved".  Hopefully that is the case but some will seal off the opening and reform.  At your age it is likely to be benign but I am sure that your doctor who tapped this cyst sent the contents off for pathology to confirm that issue.  Ask him/her about that.

:  No.Biopsies are not done to diagnose infection sp. std.

Stop worrying: The worst that can happen is some heavy-duty bleeding and a trip to the operating room. A fraction of a percent of kidney biopsies are followed by this adventure, but i'd be much more worried about not having a tissue diagnosis on that cyst.

Usually not: Usually biopsies are not performed on the ovary. Rather if there is a cyst or mass that is suspicious, it will usually be removed entirely, either with or without the rest of the ovary. However not all cysts need to be removed. Sometimes a cyst can be a normal finding.

Try not to biopsy: usually look at image, wait to see if it grows or changes, and biopsy if persistent or suspicious.
you don't want to biopsy everything, but don't want to miss anything so we try to careful and watchful.   Best to discuss with your doctor.

Biopsy: Only after the biopsy can it be determined cancer or not. More than likely it is not cancer.

Possibly: An ovarian cyst found postmenopause, may or may not be a problem.  It depends on the size and characteristics of the cyst.  If surgery is necessary, the ovaries are usually remoed and not a biopsy.  Discuss this further with your physician.
