today @work i went to change my tampon& noticed i'd leaked urine. i hadn't even felt the urge to go! was my tampon pushing agnst my bladder or smthng?

Quite possible .: If the bladder is too full the tampon can be in the back of the bladder- urine will be leaked. Some times if tampons stay too long can give rise to foul smell &amp; lead to infections.. It is good to change often enough depending on the  blood flow.

am 69 & wear pads because urine leaks from coughing. small blood amount after wiping after urinating (not regularly). no pain. can pads cause irration?

No: Pads will not cause these issues. Have the problem evaluated.

i have had 2 urine tests showing occult  blood 1+ . is it safe to wear a tampon when i am retested to make sure it's not from the vaginal area?

Accepted Answer

Sure: If you are having any vaginal bleeding it can show up in a clean catch urine specimen.  A tampon may help.  You could also have a catheterized speciman to be the most accurate.  If the blood persists then get checked ou to determine the cause.  Hope this helps.

The : The only way to be sure of the status of your urine is to have a formal urinalysis(ua) done by your doctor. Multiple things are screened for in a ua including protein, glucose, nitrites, white blood cells etc. Your doctor will be able to interpret the results and decide on additional testing. You may need an urologist evaluation in order to determine if there are any abnormalities of your urinary tract, which would explain the change in your stream.

Pills may help: There are basically 3 different types of urine leakage: stress, urge and overflow. They cause leaking with different situations and are treated very differently. Urge incontinence will respond to medication, the other 2 types won't. Both stress and urge may get better with physical therapy.

Recurrent UTI's: Looks like you developed two urinary tract infections with the same microorganism within last four months.   The problem may be related to either reinfection or persistent infection due to either not sufficient antibiotic treatment or anatomical problem. I would have your physician review your urine culture results and perhaps ask for further evaluation.

Yes: The longer a tampon stays in, even if it's leaking, the higher the risk for tss.

: You just watch for this time and note of the duration. If heavy, prolonged period keeps recurring in the future then you should see a GYN doctor for help. You are at low risk for iron deficiency anemia because you probably have less than 8 periods a year so the about of blood loss is not high although with heavy menses. Good luck.

First : First of all you posted in ob/gyn, are you pregnant? If so this is an emergency and you should go to OB triage. Hopefully you are not pregnant, i think you would have mentioned that in your post. 
On to your concern, you need to be evaluated by your doctor right away, a more worrisome issue would be a fistula or it could be something as simple as a uti. Either way you need an evaluation and treatment.

Depends.: If you leak most often with activities like coughing, laughing or sneezing then you probably have stress incontinence.  Leaking with a strong urge on the way to the restroom usually indicates bladder spasms or urge incontinence.  Their are other causes of leaking urine.  Your doctor can determine the underlying cause and best treatment.   You can start the evaluation with your gyn.
