Needs to be checked: Pain on kneeling may be coming from knee cap(Patella) if it is in the front.If the pain is in the back of the knee then it is coming from meniscus.It may be a injury to meniscus
I suggest you have it checked and may need Xrays and/or MRI to make the diagnosis

: You may have neuropathy and it would be useful to see your doctor for an initial assessment and to ascertain if you need to consult a neurologist. In the meantime take multivitamins with B12. If you are diabetic, good control of blood glucose is essential.

Many things: There is a long list of possible causes.  Weakness due to being in a cast to nerve inusr from the fracture or the cast.  I would see the doctor who treated you for the fracture.

Impossible to: Tell without adequate examination.  But meniscus or ligament injury is possible.  It will probably not improve with time.  So get to an orthopedic surgeon for proper evaluation.

See rheumatology: the joints of the knees and ankles may be swelling because of an underlying systemic disease.  If there is a family history of arthritis, or even if there isn't talk with your primary care physician and/or consider a consultation with a rheumatologist.

More stress downhill: It is not uncommon for someone who may have some early arthritic changes underneath their kneecaps to feel more pain descending stairs or going downhill. There is more stress place on the articulation between the kneecap and the end of the thigh bone going downhill. You may want to think about using hiking poles if you are going to walk uneven routes, you will get an upper body workout as a bonus.
