Flatfeet?: Hopefully mommyagian is not wearing high heels. Assuming you are not, check and see if you have flatfeet. Flatfeet will place extra stress on the inner portion of the knees. If this is the case try wearing orthotics and see if tis helps.

Depends on examinati: It depends on the cause. You evaluation will detect whether there is swelling, instability, loose bodies, cartilage problems - a whole group of problems we call internal derangement of the knee. There are a variety of causes and that will help define the diagnosis and your treatment.

Good Question: The insanity work out is hard on knees.  The fact that your knee is feeling better is a good sign that no serious damage was done.  I suggest avoiding this type of work out in future.  Instead, try strength training using weights. When training your legs, keep the amount of weight light and do multiple sets (3 or 4) of high reps (20 reps).  This will strengthen you knee without causing injury.

Bakers cyst: There are a number of possibilities and you may want to be checked.  Among the more common causes is known as a bakers cyst, which is a herniation of the posterior aspect of the knee capsule between two tendons in the back of the knee.  The cyst is sometes associated with internal derangement of the knee such as a tear of the meniscus, so again, consider being checked.  Thank you.

Swelling and tenderness are usually felt behind the knee and could be diagnosed by an ultrasound or MRI of the knee. Plain xrays usually will not show the problem. Good luck

   If I had such difficulties with my knees/hips post surgery, I would consult with a Prof. of Orthopedics at teaching hospital for a second opinion. DDS could understand stress of situation which could  exacerbate TMJ symptoms.
