We don't (usually): Most kidney cysts are benign (not harmful). No treatment is needed. For many cysts (polycystic kidney disease) they sometimes cause kidney failure.  Not much we can do about that.  There are medicines which have been suggested to reduce growth/size of cysts but these have not been proven to help long term health/kidney function.

Depends. : Renal cysts are very common and estimated to be present in a quarter of all adults. Simple fluid filled cysts are completely benign, normal, and do not require followup. Cysts associated with dialysis, polycystic kidney disease, vhl, or medullary sponge kidney should be followed.

Depends: Patients with adpckd, a hereditary condition, can also have cysts in the liver, pancreas, and spleen.

Anytime: Kidney cyst can already be present at birth, develop in childhood or as an adult. A simple kidney cyst is very common, in fact present in up to 1 in every 3 humans ; usually require no treatment unless they become symptomatic.

None: Usually no symptoms at all. Incidental finding in ultrasound. When they are very large may feel some discomfort in the flank area.

Surveillance: Complex kidney cyst should be followed by serial ultrasounds.Most of the cysts remain unchanged, however  some may either increase or decrease in size. Complex cysts must be followed by serial imaging.

No,...: Oftentimes, your described cyst with septations is an incidental finding and causes no discomfort and risk to you. Such cyst will stay with you forever and grow over time with its wide variation of evolution. If necessary, timely periodic renal US or CT may be required to see if there is a high suspicion for neoplasm, As to how to handle such, ask your radiologist or urologist for timely detail.

Worth genetics eval: If your fetus has kidney cysts on ultrasound it would be a good idea too discuss the findings with your ob, who can have the initial findings verified with a higher resolution study. If confirmed a visit with a geneticist can fill you in on specifics based on the study. There is a severe condition that can have this findings & a couple not so bad. Your specific case will need further study.
