is doxycycline well tolerated, & is it one of the antiobios more likely to cause allergic reactions? i'm allergic to keflex and nervous to take doxy.

Doxycycline: Doxycycline can sometimes cause stomach upset, and this can potentially limit its use.  This side effect is not an allergy, however.  People who are allergic to Keflex (generic cephalexin) may need to avoid other so-called beta-lactam antibiotics, which include the penicillins and cephalosporins.  An allergy to Keflex would not predispose you to an allergy to Doxycycline as they are not related.

i have an infection in a piercing in my ear, why does my dr have me on both keflex and doxycycline? can these two make me feel like i have a cold?

Infections caused...: ...By foreign objects like piercing jewelry are often due to a mixture of bacteria, which sometimes requires treatment with a mixture of antibiotics. Many drugs can cause flu-like symptoms, but so can the interferon that your own body secretes to help fight the infection. Or, you might also have a cold!

i was given several antibiotics through iv over 2 days. some i know that were included were: clindamycin, vancomycin, po keflex, doxycycline and a coagulant. can these create false positive for amphetamine use?

: No. None of the antibiotics/meds listed would show up as amphetamines.

Change antibiotic: Your vomiting could be due to medication side effects but if you are also having chills it may mean that you may be having pyelonephritis which means the infection has ascended up in the urinary tract into the lower part of the kidneys (especially if you also have fever and flank pain). You need to see your doctor to be rechecked and for a possible change in antibiotics.

i have a 15, 000 wbc count in blood on keflex and doxycycline for urine infection for 2 days now chills and throwing up?

See your doctor: Your vomiting could be due to medication side effects but if you are also having chills it could mean that you may be having pyelonephritis which means the infection has ascended up in the urinary tract into the lower part of the kidneys (especially if you also have fever and flank pain plus your high wbc) ). You need to see your doctor to be rechecked and for a possible change in antibiotics.

had phlegmon in armpit with lump. took keflex and developed a cordlike vein in the armpit. now im told heat, baby aspirin, and doxycycline until ultrasound. is phlebitis common in axillary due to abscess? any other ways to help it improve?

: It is frequent. Continue your treatment as recommended. If it swells up again, or becomes red and tender, you may need to go to the Doctor for surgical Drainage.

: There is not any drug interaction between these 3 medicine. With doxycyline there may be some sun sensitivity if you are out in the sun a lot.

Accepted Answer

Probably not: Bv is caused by an anaerobic bacteria.  The antibiotics you list are generally used for treating aerobic bacterial infections.

i was prescribed cephalexin for staph but it gave me an allergic reactions. i told my doctor i have been taking it for 4 days but its was 3 day. he prescribed me doxycycline will it still be affective he prescribed me doxycycline 100mg for 5 days?

: Doxycycline is not the drug of choice for staph infection but it is an acceptable because you are allergic to cephalexin, probably penicillin and its derivative. The duration of treatment depends on where the infection is. In general, a five day course is probably enough for a simple infection.
