Do u have UC?: You usually know what your flare up symptoms are. Sometimes there is superimposed infection or other cause. Call your doctor if symptoms are persisting.

Flu: Influenza is a virus. It requires a good immune system to fight it. Rest, drink plenty of fluids. Avoid sugar, dairy, fatty foods, alcohol. Eat citrus fruits and variety of color of vegetables. Eat lean proteins. Keep your hands clean, clean the surfaces you touch. After you use your toothbrush place the brush portion in boiling water for 3 minutes

Depends: The course of flu would not be affected by antibiotics. If you have superimposed bacterial infection that may be helped by antibiotics. However, it is not feasible to ascertain if you have viral only or viral and bacterial infection without examining you. If the symptoms are severe, you should see a doctor.

Antibiotics ?: Antibiotics don't help flu. The anti-viral Tamiflu only helps if started in the first day or 2 of symptoms. If you develop a documented (by exam) complication of flu like a bacterial pneumonia antibiotics may be needed.

Be examined: This episode cold be influenza.  38% of individuals who get immunized will still get the flu if exposed, but a much milder version.   The cough that lasted a month in a 40 year smoker is mor consistent with chronic bronchitis or earlyl copd.

Common problem: It is common after a viral infection resolves, that a cough may linger. It generally resolves within 8 weeks and is called a post-viral cough (duh). To cough, you use abdominal muscles but with excessive coughing these  become sore. If  a fever returns, fatigue continues, productive cough or breathing difficulties develop, see a doctor. A mild pneumonia/bronchitis can follow viral infections.
