if i stop taking jolivette will my bleeding stop?

Not necessarily: Even when any abnormal vaginal bleeding might had started while using the contraceptive not necessarily it will stop after it is discontinued. It all depends if the bleeding is actually a medication side effect or if it was caused by any other problem. In any case, if the changes happened only while on it  most likely you you will return to your normal. Follow up with your GYN provider on this.

GYN exam: Get female and thyroid hormones checked, a pelvic exam and a random blood sugar with HgbA1c.

i started bleeding heavily specifically from jolivette pills, and have had unbearable side effects. when i stop them, how soon will the bleeding and side effects stop?

Unknown: Breakthrough bleeding is a common side effect on Progesterone only pills. This is why most doctors prescribe the more traditional combination birth control pills. Once you stop them they are out of your system in a few days.

i lost the last 5 of my jolivette pills. should i just start a new pack, or take the last five out of the next pack, throw that, then start anew?

Progestin only BCP: Jolivette is a brand of norethindrone, a progestin-only birth control pill. All 28 pills in each pack contain norethindrone. In other words, there are no placebo or sugar pills. Therefore, there is also no withdrawal bleeding as with standard combination estradiol-progestin bcps. I'd suggest just starting your next pack immediately. If you've missed a day or more, use condoms, too, as back up.

Jolivette: (norethindrone)  is not one of the oral contraceptives that is listed for use as an emergency contraceptive.

i stopped taking jolivette about 4 months ago. since then i have had irregular bleeding and clots. is this normal?

Accepted Answer

No Normal: Irregular periods with clots are not normal, but may be common.  If your periods were irregular prior to being on oral contraceptives like Jolivette, then it is very common for your periods to go back to being abnormal once you stop them.  If your periods are lasting 8 or more days, your bleed between periods, or if very heavy, then see your clinician for further evaluation and treatment.

i have been taking jolivette for the past three and a half weeks and i had unprotected sex with my boyfriend today. am i protected from pregnancy?

Ocp effectiveness: If you started the pill on the first day of your period, then you are absolutely protected. If you started later like the Sunday following the first day of your period , you are supposed to be using condoms during your first pack.  That being said, most likely  you  have passed the time that you  should have ovulated. It is best to follow the instructions.

i usually take my birth control, jolivette, in the morning but i'd like to start taking them at night. do i have to use backup, i'll be taking tonigjt?

No: This is okay. You will still have full protection since it is only one pill delayed for some hours.

can you tell me how i could change the time that i take jolivette?

Accepted Answer

Dosing : There are 21 active days in a pack. IF you are trying to not have a period start a new pack right after the last active pill. You wont have a period then for the month prior and the next. If you are taking them in the morning and want to take at night just do that. 12 hours late one day (or early) wont hurt.

Should be fine: It sounds like your question is switching from one bcp type to another.  This is fine to do.  Once you finish one pack of bcp, then when you are due to start a new pack start the new bcp.  If you don't wait between packs, then the birth control protection continues.
