Scar Healing: A scar forms when there is  healing of an injury to the tissues.  Remember that with almost all wounds, healing continues for months and months as we change the stress on the tissues.  A scar forms as a result and may have many different appearances and colors.  Any dark coloration may fade over time but the tissues never are the same and so some scarring will always be there.

Accepted Answer

Probably.: While there are topical products specifically designed for use on scars to minimize them, there are no well-designed clinical studies to show that they are superior to some of the old-time products like cocoa butter or vitamin E oil. In my opinion, probably what is more important than what you rub on, is the pressure used to rub any moisturizing product on.  Avoid things to which you are allergic.

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Bio oil may help with improving scars but the studies that have been done are very small trials involving 20 -25 patients.  The results are variable.  Read the label carefully to make sure your are not allergic to any components or try a small patch test . Apply a small amount on an inconspicuous area and wait for 1 -3 days to check for any sensitivity.

It won't work: It's a health fraud. It won't touch scars. It won't remove freckles. If you use a freckle remover, even from a dermatologist, you risk disfiguring yourself. Freckles are endearing, they're distinctively you, and a majority of your friends probably like them. Ask them. If you want them less prominent, avoid excess sunlight -- wise in any case.

Improve, not remove: Scars are permanent, but they improve with time. Pressure treatment, silicone sheeting and steroid injection may hasten their maturation. Don't waste your money--coconut oil won't help.

Yes, very effective: I have found bio oil to be very effective in improving the appearance of scars after surgery. It has to be applied twice daily on a regular basis in a circular motion to allow the ingredients to penetrate deeply into the area of the scar.

Can't really get RID: Of scars, but you can reduce their noticability.  Use a cream called mederma to reduce the appearance of scars.

Accepted Answer

No clear difference: Several topical products claim to benefit scars. Onion extract gel and petrolatum (vaseline and aquaphor) may have a small beneficial effect and are equally effective. I am not aware of any studies comparing bio oil (mineral oil, fragrance, vitamins, retinoid) and vaseline. Silicone gel sheeting benefits keloid scars and the pulse-dye-laser helps a variety of scars  when treated early (1-3 months).

to pervent a scar from hapening i could use kukui nut oil right but can it be body oil or cream which one is better?

Accepted Answer

Cream: It won't prevent a scar but may soften it up. The cream is better. Don't spend a lot of money on it.
