Testing: I would assume that your physician has ordered a rheumatoid profile.  I  suggest using OTC NSAIDS for mold to moderate pain, if not allergic to Advil or Aleve. Ask your PCP which he/she suggests. If severe, you may need prednisone.

Migratory : Migratory arthritis, meaning that is in one joint and get better and moves to another joint is a typical presentation of rheumatic fever. Rheumatic fever is rare in the adult. Reactive artritis may present that way , but it would be not a frecuent presentation . The fact that it lasts only 48 hours makes it difficult and the fact that has been present foe a few weeks also .Ussually viral diseases might present in a non tipical way and could last up to six weeks but ussually patiens have a flu like syndrome. Another transient arthritis that may present in this matter would be that asociated with n gonorrhea, but again is associated with , fever malaise, a discharge  skin lesion. Since it has been there for several weeks yoy should consult your primary and see wheter he would like to determine what is going on or he would like to have the rheumatologist evaluate you.

See details: Have you seen a rheumatologist and why are you on multiple narcotic pain relievers and gabapentin? This is unlikely to be just osteoarthritis.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Take multivitamins, just in case.

A thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams are needed to determine the exact cause. Causes of pain may include: trauma (fracture, sprain, arthritis), infection, metabolic conditions (gout), musculoskeletal or biomechanical abnormality and neurologic conditions (neuropathy).

If the joint hurts, it's called 'arthralgia'; if the joints are inflamed (red, swollen, warm, painful), its called 'arthritis' which can be part of over 100 diseases. Many more cause joint arthralgia. Most are limited to 3-4 weeks. Most common chronic is degenerative. Joint pains over a month...Not always simple answer--see your pcp.
