i'm using gentian violet for thrush. how often should i use this a day and for how long?

Azole cream better: Gentian violet is an old fashioned, messy, and not very effective treatment for vaginal yeast (thrush) infections. If not professionally diagnosed, see a doctor. If you've had yeast before and symptoms are typical, try an over-the-counter yeast cream; look for active ingredient ending in "azole" (miconazole, teraconazole, etc). Any of these will be more effective and faster than gentian violet.

1 week: Application of gentian violet for a week should do a job if you can bear with some messiness.    I have noticed that other oral lesions have been mistaken as thrush by general public.

See a doctor: You also asked about gential violet for vaginal yeast infection. See my reply to that question. Oral thrush is uncommon in otherwise healthy persons. "Painless white stuff" usually isn't yeast (thrush), just a garden variety "coated tongue", which can occur with colds and any number of minor health issues. Don't use GV, which isn't recommended for oral treatment. See a doctor for both problems.

Anyone can: Thrush is present in young babies to the very oldest adults.  This is a yeast infection of the lining of the oral cavity.  It can happen for no apparent reason or be brought on by medications/drugs, illness and those with poor immunity.  Antibiotics often precipitate this as do certain cancers and medications. Usually treated with oral troches, liquids, or orally swallowed pills and some topicals.

Thrush: Anti fungals ( Nystatin oral suspension and diflucan) are helpful! throw away all toothbrushes ( or in case of a baby --- all bottle nipples and pacifiers); as chances of re-infection are high if continue to use these!

Yeast infection: Thrush is caused by yeast.  Yeast are everywhere.  In young infants, who have less "normal flora" than older children (normal flora refers to the normal and healthy germs we carry in our mouths), yeast sometimes gets out of control, causing white patches in the mouth.  Thrush is also more likely when the baby is on antibiotics which also decrease normal flora.

Thrush: Recurrent thrush would make me suspicious of some process that is causing your immune system to not function right in your mouth and throat. This can be as simple as dry mouth. Hormonal issues such as low thyroid or some process effecting your immune system.

Yes, but...: Clotrimazole (clonea?) comes as a cream, lotion, powder, and solution to apply to the skin; lozenges (called troches) to dissolve in the mouth; and vaginal tablets and vaginal cream to be inserted into the vagina. If you don't have the right form of the medicine to treat the area of the body you want, you need to get the proper formulation.
