will jello water help to soothe a baby's upset stomach?

Accepted Answer

Baby's stomach: Your baby's age will determine much of what is safe and recommended for certain symptoms.  Unless you check with the Family Physician that knows your baby best, I would avoid anything like Jello water.

hello i've had an upset stomach for the last two days and everything i put on it seems to makes it worse. even sipping water seems to cause issues.

Indigestion: It's possible you have a mild intestinal infection or you have excess acid production in your stomach. I would recommend a mild and acid such as Maalox or ranitidine.

Vomiting: it is important to keep hydrated ,dehydration worsens vomiting and makes you weaker.  If you can't keep any liquids down even water(  not just a sip but a cup) go to ER /urgent care they can give you medicine -phenergan/ Zofran (ondansetron) that treats nausea so you can keep water down. Also check HCG, or may be gastroenteritis  or if severe abdominal pain pancreatitis, gastritis.gb. f/u/ with ER/ urgent care

Gastroenterologist: I recommend an evaluation by a gastroenterologist to check for esophageal disorders like stricture or achalasia which is a failure of coordination between the esophagus and the esophagogastric sphincter at the entrance of the stomach.

Sounds like colic: This is likely colic, a condition where babies have pain from intestinal spasms. We can't always find the cause but something you're feeding them may be trigger it. If you're breastfeeding it might be something you're eating. If using formula choose organic ones to avoid gmo's. GI distress: There's a cause for your child's GI distress, and simply changing formula may not provide relief. Your child should be evaluated by a children's medical specialist, a Pediatrician, to discover the cause of his distress and thereby arrive at the appropriate treatment. Don't try to do this hit or miss. Take advantage of a Pediatricians 20,000 hours of training and years of experience.

I wouldn't: The product contains aspirin which is disproportionately excreted in the breast milk at higher than expected levels. As a rule we do not expose children under 16 yo to any aspirin products for a variety of reasons. If you can find an aspirin free product like Tums it would be better.

Teething/reflux: Gagging on saliva and perhaps a bit of reflux with teething may be contributing to your events. I would approach this with smaller feeds that do not overfill your baby's tummy. Rub the gums and maintain upright postioning after feeds. I would not use medication at this time since this might make the lining of the stomach irritated.
