i have a itchy scalp without flaking, scaling, dandruff, red or inflammed areas. the severe itching seems to only happen while i sleep. please help!?

Itchy scalp: Try a dandruff shampoo in the shower every night. Use a Hydrocortisone liquid solution after the shampoo  if you still itch. If there is no relief, see a dermatologist. Otc shampoos include head & shoulders, selson, dhs, nizoral, (ketoconazole) tsal, tgel, etc. The generics should also work.

Itchy scalp: You may have seborrhoic dermatitis causing flaking or dandruff. The condition is usually caused by a fungus. You can use head and shoulder shampoo or antifungal shampoos available over the counter.

: Try Selenium sulfide shampoo for regular care. It could be something easily taken care of by something as simple as that or any other dandruff shampoo that may be available to you locally.

Could be...: ...Seborrheic dermatitis (which doesn't always cause flaking), or an allergy to a shampoo or conditioner. Or (i know this sounds gross) you could have head lice. Look for the eggs (called "nits"), which appear as tiny white dots attached to individual hair shafts. You may have to see a dermatologist, since it's pretty hard to examine your own scalp thoroughly.

Itchy scalp: Anti dandruff shampoo containing salicylic acid or selenium are often effective.  Olive oil may loosen scales that are washed away by the shampoo. See a dermatologist if the condition does not improve.
