Yes: The combination of nausea and diarrhea is characteristic of a viral gastrointestinal tract infection or mild food poisoning. Both of these will resolve on their own after several days. Drink flat ginger ale, eat soft bland foods starting with broth, saltine crackers, toast. Keep hydrated with room temperature water. Your pharmacist can recommend antidiarrheal medication if needed. Exam: You must be examined and follow a clear fluid diet as follows:NO SOLID FOODS FOR 48 HOURS
Force fluids: 8-10 glasses/day:
Electrolyte rich fluids- Gatorade, Powerade, Vitamin Water
Protein rich fluids: broth bullion, consume.
AVOID ALL CITRUS JUICES: orange, grapefruit, pineapple, cranberry etc.
Avoid all aspirin, Advil, Aleve (naproxen) ( NSAIDS ).
If not improving go to private physician or ER.

Yes: Wash your hands frequently and get out the Clorox. Try to isolate yourself as much as possible. They should be encouraged to use good hygiene as well. Your company should consider this an outbreak and obtain stool samples. All the best, to good health!

Let me try to sort: this out. Public health officials are in charge of monitoring and treating water to make it suitable for drinking; strict guidelines for purity apply. If you see bugs only flying around your glass of water, nothing adverse should happen...though you should go someplace to drink it where this isn't happening. If you see a bug in your water/water glass, discard it and get fresh water and glass.

Until diarrhea stops: You have asked a broad question so i will answer it with a broad answer. As a general rule of thumb i would wait until the diarrhea had stopped and all other signs and symptoms of infection had gone away. Your partner should be without fever and without any other symptoms.

VIRAL DIARRHEA: As long as there is NO blood/mucous in stool, bad cramp, recent travel, no local endemic factor-, it is viral. Give oral Electrolyte Solution (ORT) 6-8 ounces for each diarrhea, give (BRAT Diet): Banana, Rice, Applesauce, Toast + chicken/soup, cracker, yogurt, more water, minimal juice. Avoid milk as it can worsen diarrhea bc of temporary lactose intolerance. Any worsening see his pediatrician.

See your doctor.: There are many possible causes of diarrhea, most of which are self-limited and resolve on their own in a week or two. Since yours has been going to longer, I think you should see your doctor to help sort out the problem. In the meantime, try increasing the amount of fiber in your diet. Good luck.

Probably viral: A probiotic may be helpful. Watch for signs of blood and mucus in the stool. Provide clear fluids, avoid dairy products until well. Bananas and rice will promote normal stool pattern. Please see your pediatrician for signs of dehydration including fewer wet diapers, dry mouth and no tears.

i have had diarrhoea for 10days. completely liquid and some of the food is not digested at all.  i have just started taking pectrolyte on recommendation from pharmacy. i have been told there is a bug going around. is there anything i shd be doing?

Mgt: I would suggest stool testing and /or treatment for parasitic infection. Avoid milk products and a probiotic may be used.
