Treat symptoms: Any skin irritation can be caused by irritants, bugs or allergies. Try washing the area with water and removing any creams, lotions, makeup, soap residues, etc. Then use an antihistamine such as benadryl, zyrtec or claritin to reduce the local inflammation. Soothing topicals like calamine can also help. if the rash spreads or worsens, see a dr.

A contact dermatitis: You may have an allergy to the metal in your ring, like nickel, gold, etc. Or, there is a possibility that you have a contact dermatitis to a soap or other substance that gets trapped under your ring that is causing irritation to your skin. You may benefit from patch testing which is performed by dermatologists to help determine the cause.

Boil: Does it matter what you call it? By definition, boils are infected while cysts are not (although they can become so). Avoidance: If there is no itching, try to avoid scented or antibacterial soap and apply a moisturizer on the skin routinely within 3 minutes after bathing.  Avoid contact with irritants (organic solvents, hand sanitizer etc). If the skin appears clean , a few days of topical 1% hydrocortisone cream may help calm the skin down but the best answer is still "avoiding the irritants".
