Root Canal Therapy: If performed by a qualified dentist Root Canal Therapy is both safe and effective. Same goes for an extraction- safe if performed by qualified dentist. One caveat is that in certain countries outside of the United States I have seen poorly done Root Canal Therapy that leads to eventual extraction of tooth anyway. Best to save tooth if possible if enough sound tooth structure and supporting bone.

Very Safe: The procedure should not cause you any health problems, Many general dentist perform root canal therapy,  but if you feel more comfortable seeing a specialist, seek the care of an endodontist.

Root Canal Therapy: This should be discussed with your own dentist in consultation with your Cardiologist and not a dentist over the internet who lacks more information then what you posted. Generally speaking if an infection is present this needs to be dealt with prior to the surgery.

No Worries: If you have sensitivity to cold, then the nerve is still alive, so that's why there is no infection. Can't tell if you will need antibiotics later... probably not, but you never know. Feel better soon...

See below: I do not think a baby tooth should have a root canal. I'd rather see the tooth removed. There are many studies about root canal toxicity on the web you should look some up.

Medical history: You should consult your endodontist or general dentist to see what would be best given your medical history. Sometimes they may prescribe a antibiotic during treatment. Depending on the nature of the root canal they may give you a prescription for pain after the proceedure.Surprisingly, they are generally pain free proceedures.

Should be....: As long as you are not allergic to clindamycin.  I'd imagine that this recommendation is based on some heart or joint replacement issues.  The doctor is probably making sure that there is no collateral damage to your heart or artificial joints.

This : This is a common question that patients ask me all the time.  Many patients try to wait for insurance coverage to do root canals, crowns, or larger priced dentistry.  If your symptoms are mild and you do not have an active infection then, it is not a big deal to wait a short amount of time.  Root canals are treatment planned for a couple of reasons, but the most common reason is when bacteria from a cavity infect the nerve and blood supply to the tooth.  Be sure to discuss with your dentist, any medical conditions that you have.  These could be aggravated by an infection in your mouth.  Also find out how much of the procedure your dental insurance will cover.  Many insurance companies will have different waiting periods or high deductibles and you want to be sure the cost saving it is worth the wait.
