Probably good!: Further research is needed, but a study showed that those who have 1 glass of red wine a day had half the chance of developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease as non-drinkers, while those who drank beer or liquor had 4 times the risk. however, this doesn't prove red wine helps those who already have it, but that seems likely.

No: No the benefits are not enough to justify the risks to your liver.

Perhaps: depends on individual and other factors. 8 ounces daily is somewhat "generous" re: health benefits of wine.

Depends on amount: It is my understanding that no more than one glass of red wine per day may be helpful for heart health and is not likely to have negative liver effects; but higher amounts of wine on a regular basis could very well have adverse liver effects.

Accepted Answer

Yes, but...: It won't help the fatty liver. Some people are very sensitive, others less so. If other factors, such as overweight/obesity then those need to be dealt with as well (and every bit as much). The occasional glass of wine (for true occasions, e.g. Weddings, etc) won't cause much damage. Regular intake will, binge intake will.

after alcoholic fatty liver reverses, is drinking actually dangerous? i don't see myself never having beers with the guys or wine with my wife.

Potentially yes: Drinking leads to fatty liver, which is reversible once you stop drinking, if there is no scarring already. For you to know if there is scarring in the liver you would need a liver biopsy. Alcoholic fatty liver can then turn into cirrhosis, which is non-reversible. You can probably get away with a drink every now and then, but nothing on a daily / regular basis.

Not per se: Hi. The amount you drink is good for you (and sure makes for a nice dinner with your partner!). It will not put you at risk for fatty liver in the absence of comorbid conditions like type 2 diabetes, or bad genes. To your good health, cheers!

You could ask this: question to 10 different doctors and probably get at least 5 different answers. There would be no scientific study done that measures the effects of 2 glasses of wine per week vs. none. The point is to avoid liver toxins; alcohol is a common one. Two glasses a week isn't very much. One camp would say why do it if there is a chance it could hurt, even a little. Others, that much likely won't matter

Yes: Alcohol in any form is bad for liver.

Accepted Answer

Not in any...: ...Significant way. If you get the same damage from 10 glasses of wine as from 9 shots of vodka, i don't call that a major protective effect.
