No it does not: No Prednisone does not cause kidney damage.Long term use of Prednisone with moderate to high doses of Prednisone can cause elevation of blood pressure, but if the dose is reduced or Prednisone is stopped, the blood pressure comes down to normal.
But no kidney damage.

Should not: Would be extremely rare for this to happen. If  u have underlying chronic kidney disease, steroids can cause indirect influences on the kidneys. But again, very rare

Uti: Have a simple urine test to find out if you have a uti. Prednisone can lower your immunity and increase susceptibilty to infections.

No: Prograf (tacrolimus) and prednisone are used as anti-rejection agents in transplant recipients or as a drug to treat inflammation of kidney tissues (glomerulonephritis).  They are used so that ongoing tissue damages are stopped while the kidney starts to recover.

Not much: There is nothing that is going to make the avascular necrosis better. It's all about monitoring and close contact with an ortho doc to determine if an when intervention is necessary.

how long after taking prednisone (was on for about 3 weeks, tapered properly) should it take for the bun to return to an accurate reading.. i am being monitored for kidney failure, but don't want to start on dialysis until actually needed?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. You appear to be under the care of a doctor and  It would be prudent to discuss your concern with your doctor who knows more about your health and has examined you.

Liver: Liver is your answer. The kidneys get put some of the metabolites that are produced after liver starts the process off.

is there a reason to avoid prednisone for chf patient with inflammation, myalgia and kidney/water retention concern? what medicine is good to reduce cortisol?

Accepted Answer

Complex: Prednisone causes fluid and water retention and so is not a good medicine for someone with CHF. If there is no alternative, the effects can be reversed with furosemide that is titrated to effect. Since predisone is a corisol like drug, giving it is the opposite of reducing cortisol. In other words, if you have too  much cortisol, you would't give prednisone. Capish?
