Burn Types: Depends on the type of skin burn: First degree burns are red, painful and dry but no blisters. No ointment. Apply a hydrocolloid pad for pain relief. Second degree burns are red, swollen and blistered. Do not pop the blister. Apply antibiotic ointment and cover with a soft non-stick gauze pad. Third Degree burns appear white, charred and painless since the nerves are destroyed. See a DR for these.

can i apply vaseline/petroleum jelly on my scalp? i've scratched and irritated my scalp and when i wash it, it burns cus i probably broke some skin.

Bee ; Flower: Soap can be purchased in chinatown or on line.  It is easy on the skin and pleasant smelling.  One type is called sandalwood, but there are several others.  Peace and good health.  Please see a dermatologist and avoid lotions w/alcohol in them.  Vaseline not a good idea; need to avoid infection.

i got a ~1cm boil on my inner thigh, close to my panty line, due to the chafing of my pants and underwear. how can i make it go away? i'm applying petroleum jelly to avoid more chafing. should i pop it? it has a visible head?

: Boils may drain spontaneously if you apply moist heat several times daily. However, many that size or bigger need to be drained surgically in the office to have the core/lining removed or the recur repeatedly.

Try eczema dry skin: Try eczema, dry skin lotions. Cat brand names can be Aveeno but big box stores have their own generic name. Petroleum jelly can actually be driving and ointments like aqua for our better to moisturize because they are hydrophilic. Your dermatologist can also evaluate you, and you may need a medical evaluation to see if there are any systemic medical problems that could be contributing.

i have a chemical burn from mineral spirits from 3 days ago. it is on my stomach. it bled through my clothes. i have just been putting petroleum jelly and neosporin on it. what is the best way to heal it quickly before i have an awful scar?

: It would have to have burned through the whole thickness of the skin to form a scar. If you have any raw areas, apply triple antibiotic cream to prevent infection.

SUGGESTIONS: If it is a true second degree burn, will blister, but unlikely to leave significant scar.  Suggest next time you get a kitchen burn, assuming it is minimal, apply ice locally for 10-15 minutes. (Seems to work amazingly well in most cases, and actually can reverse much of the immediate signs.)

See below: Using both shouldn't be necessary. Physiogel cream should provide adequate moisturizing for your face & is hypo-allergenic, soap-free, & non-comedogenic. Petroleum jelly might tend to clog pores & is quite messy.
