last depo shot12/14/20, stopped due to spotting. spotting on/off since1/7/21. 2/26/21doctor had me on2 birth control pills a day/10 days to stop the spotting from the depo. 3/18/21heavy period last 12 days. now spotting brown with small clots.normal?

: Irregular periods following discontinuation of hormonal birth control is very common. It reflects your body's efforts to recalibrate hormones back to normal levels. It can take up to 6 months to resume normal cycles. Unless you are trying to get pregnant, use an alternative method of birth control every time you have intercourse. If the irregularity persists past 6 months, see your Gynecologist.

Your : Your symptoms are concerning and you should have a medical evaluation.  That is an abnormal amount of time to have bleeding, and it sounds like your bleeding is very heavy.  The weight loss is concerning as well. Please seek a medical evaluation.  If you have increased bleeding such as greater than 3 pads an hour, feel lightheaded, or have pain then you must be seen as an emergency.

Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time)  is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time.  If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen  then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working.

: Blood clot as a complication of oral contraceptives is mainly seen in smokers and women above 35 years of age. This side effect also dependent on the strength of estrogen component, especially for venous thrombosis. Most components of oral contraceptives will be out of the body within 2 weeks so the effect on coagulation should be gone by then. Take care!

Higher than necesary: And i know i misspelled necessary. I encourage smokers to avoid oral contraceptive use, and vice versa, because of the increased risk for blood clots. Why increase your risk for no good reason? More importantly how do you justify "working out" for fitness then throwing it all away by smoking.

Nobody knows: This isn't the place to discuss the cannabis laws or to compare the risks to those of alcohol. The world medical community mostly considers our harsh cannabis laws to be ill-advised. Nobody's documented that blood clots are a risk for cannabis smokers, and we'd probably know by now if it was. Still -- why use a "recreational substance" that makes people goofy? It's your choice.

ALL increase DVT ris: All birth control pills increase the risk of blood clots.  Pills containing drospirinone as they progestin component have a slightly higher risk of blood clot promotion (but are still avail on the market) than non-drospirinone formulations. There is some thought that the patch and vaginal ring may have slightly lower risk of this b/c they don't go through liver first, but that can't be said defini.

With acute blood clots doctors and therapists ususally advise against deep tissue massage. Hormonal birth control pills, especially those containing estrogen, do increase blood's potential to clot, but only very rarely do women develop blood clots.
