Food safety:  Snoek is reportled to have low mercury content so it should be safe during pregnancy (in moderation). Make sure all seafood is well-cooked.

Yes: In appropriate amounts like 1-2 servings per week.

Yes: The main concern is mercury and the larger fish which eat the smaller fish concentrate the mercury and are more risky. Fortunately, lobster doesn't eat very large fish.

Fish: Typically it's the deep, cold water fish that are higher in mercury. It would be easy to find a list online of fish that are high in mercury that you should avoid.  I also tell my patients to avoid sushi.

Yes: The healthiest people in the world eat a lot of fish.  The benefits of dha on fetal brain development was actually observed in women who ate a lot of fish.  There has never been any reported case of mercury poisoning from too much fish consumption in the United States.

Yes: Fresh water fish and shrimp. Fish and shrimps from fish tank may have mercury and not ideal in pregnancy

is it safe to eat nuts during pregnancy?

Accepted Answer

Yes: There are some studies that find that daily consumption of large amounts of nuts may increase childhood food allergies or asthma, but there is no increase in risk with moderate intake of nuts.  They are also a good non-meat source of protein and heart-healthy fats for pregnant moms.  So go ahead and have nuts if you would like, but don't have them for every meal every day.

is it safe to eat tofu during pregnancy.?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Soy eaten in healthy amounts and in the freshest preparation and in moderation is probably fine. It has been listed as a controversial food. So if in doubt, communication with your ob-gyn would be helpful.
