Follow instructions: Colon prep instructions will be given to you, just follow them carefully. Usually you are allowed to have liquids until 12 hours before doing the procedure.

Probably not: If you were given any type of sedation - and the vast majority of persons having a colonoscopy are - then it is unlikely to have left your system yet. Having alcohol coudl prove deadly. Wait longer before drinking; you were probably given some written instructions about this when you departed the colonoscopy suite - read tehm carefully;  and later on if you do drink - do so in moderation.

Not recommended: The anesthetic used in colonoscopy lasts in your system for about a day; avoid alcoholic drinks that first day.

hi i have had black stools like tar for like 5 years or more. i thought this was due to me drinking 3 or 4 glasses of red wine a night. stool sample shows very small amount of blood doctor wants to do a colonoscopy. i hear you can die from this ?

GI bleeding: Occult gastrointestinal bleeding (i.e. unknonwn source) is potentially serious, either because the actual cause of bleeding can be dangerous (e.g. cancer) or because slow bleeding can become sudden and even life threatening. The risk of dying from whatever is the cause of this problem is far higher than from the colonoscopy. Follow your doctor&#x27;s advice!

Yes: You will be doing your cleanse the day before and this will have probably cleared out by then anyway. If not, the cleanse will take care of it. Good Luck.

: Six days prior to the procedure you should be fine. The staff at your gastroenterologist's office will advise you regarding the procedure for the bowel prep the day before your colonoscopy.

Am concerned about: anybody who asks about whether they can or cannot drink with some procedure or with drug X, because that is a red flag that drinking alcohol is too important in your life, and that you may have a problem. You have 3 conditions that are worsened (and even caused) by alcohol, erectile dysfunction, a muscle disease and PTSD.  Alcohol is especially bad with PTSD, and makes it hard to treat. Talk to MD

on the white diet am i allowed white wine?

AVOID: That is an interesting question. I would try and stay away from wine before your colonoscopy because of all the restrictions. It will not be for that long.

i had a colonoscopy yesterday and was told i should poop in 2 days..it seems every time i eat or drink i have to poop now.  is this normal?

Yes: Yes, it can be normal because of the fluid you had to drink before the colonoscopy.  This fluid cleans the inside of your colon by causing loose bowel movements.  It sounds like you still have some in your colon.  It should work its way out in a couple of days.

i had a colonoscopy a couple days ago, could i get kidney damage from drinking the prep? i have horrible lower back pain.

Pain : Kidney damage is not common after c-scopy prep. In patients with advanced kidney disease, pre-existing , a certain prep can cause some issues. Your lower back pain in unusual and you should contact the GI doc. Pain from the kidney is unusual for what you had done. You should seek care. Even when kidney function is affected pain is not a usual symptom.
