can i drink simply lemonade or arizona iced green tea with ginseng and honey the day prior to a colonoscopy? are these acceptable clear liquids? they are not on the list my dr provided?

: Unless you want o do prep again I would follow "exactly" what is on list.  Most do not want to do it again in my experience.

See below: It is okay now 2 days before. On the day before colonoscopy try to refrain from taking anything after noon and follow the instruction for colon preparation carefully.

... clear liquids ..: Prior to colonoscopy 24 h regimen is clear liquids only, no red colors. Any dairy or protein drink are out of this recommendation . During prep drinking ...,apple juice is permitted - in case of diabetes can provide glucose if hypoglycemia . If you have special needs - consult w Gastroenterologist before procedure.   . .

i have been on clear liquid diet all day and started colonoscopy prep 4.5 hours ago. i have drank 2 liters of movi-prep without a bm. what should i do?

Continue prep: Continue the prep as prescribed.  If you have not had good BMs prior to time for the procedure, let the doctor who is going to do the procedure know.  If your colon is not cleared out, the doctor will not be able to see well enough for the colonoscopy to be of any value.  You may need to be prescribed a different bowel prep.

: If you are drinking the fluid mix, it is a liquid, eating a gel makes it a semi-solid. Whether or not your doc considers this a problem is up to them.

good morning, i will be starting my colonoscopy prep tomorrow. can i use a small amount of 2% milk in early morning coffee, then start my clear liquid?

Sure: That amount won't make any difference. But I'm a little concerned that bending this "rule" may lead you to bend a few more. Improper or inadequate prep for a colonscopy is the biggest reason many have to be repeated because the exam was suboptimal/inconclusive. You wouldn't want to repeat it. I would strongly encourage you to follow the prep instructions PRECISELY.  It's one day:)

is it okay to use hydrocortisone acetate suppositories to relieve rectal pains during colonoscopy prep (while on liquid or fasting)?

Accepted Answer

Rectal discomfort: During the prep is from the frequent loose stools and wiping too much. Soaking your bottom in warm water and applying over the counter ointments such as calmoseptine may help. The hemorrhoids can also get enlarged from such and can cause rectal discomfort on the inside. Hydrocortisone supp may help in that case.

How do you FEEL?: i would drink tap water until you are satisfied, unless you physician directed you otherwise

It had to be clear :  you need to ask your gastroenterologist to be certain. The ingredient containing tomato paste does not sound right

Leg cramps: answer is yes. preparation may cause electrolyte imbalance . drink a lot of juice
