Category C: Afrin (oxymetazoline) is fda pregnancy category c.  Drugs.Com defines category c as “animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.” thus discuss with your ob/physician to determine if benefits outweigh risks.

is it ok to use afrin for a few days longer if i'm only doing it once in the evening, and only one one side per night, and alternating which nostril i'm spraying? so essentially i am treating one side every other night?

: Be aware that the chemicals in this product work by "shrinking" the capillaries. Over time repeated chemical treatment will cause the capillaries to leak and bogginess of the nasal passages to resist any treatment. You may be able to get by with what you are doing or may not. Using an OTC nasal steroid may provide better long term help.

if i use afrin nasal spray as needed for nasal allergies for 3 days in a row, how long do i have to wait before it is ok to use afrin again?

Better treatment: Go see an ENT and get switched to a better long-term treatment. Afrin (oxymetazoline) is a poor choice to manage allergies.

50 mg levothroxine: It is more likely that you are not taking enough levothyroxine. Please ask your doctor to measure your thyroid levels.

is it ok to take estroven while taking levothyroxine?

Accepted Answer

Yes: But do not take them at the same time.  Levothyroxine should be taken on an empty stomach and separate from any vitamins or supplements by at least an hour otherwise they could decrease the absorption of the levothyroxine.  Always check with your doctor for any contraindications before taking the estroven as well.

I didn't know: anyone was still taking this out-moded anticholinergic medication. Why are you taking it. It's ok to take with levothyroxine, but brand name levothyroxine is better and more reliable than generic.

i'm currently taking levothyroxine in the evening. i would like to start taking it in the mornings. will it be ok to go ahead and take a full dose in the morning, after i took it the prior evening, and then take every morning from then on?

Yes: The transition would have no significant effect on your overall treatment or symptoms. Just remember to take it. Sometimes making a change like this will make you forget the med if taking it is not made as part of your routine.

Yes: Just make sure you take the thyroid med on an empty stomach  and take vitamins later.
