Botox and thinners: While the risk of bleeding and bruising is higher with anticoagulants, especially if more than one is used, i feel comfortable using Botox in most facial regions.  Make sure to disclose all the medications you are using, including supplements, vitamins, or even special diets you are on.  These can all affect overall bleeding.

Yes: Yes, there is no problem taking glucosamine. Make sure that you talk to your doctor about which foods to avoid if you are on a blood thinner.

Local anesthesia: Depending on the pharmacologic agent used no longer than 6 -8 hours.  Usually within an hour or two.

i have a procedure w/ anesthesia coming up in 6 days and from looking it up i realized that some adaptogens and supplements i take might have blood thinning effects. would it be enough if i were to stop taking them now, 6 days ahead?

: In rare instances, a medication or supplement's effect may last 2 weeks. However, regarding the bleeding risk, stopping medication 6 days before the procedure is usually enough. Like aspirin with long anti-platelet effect we usually ask patient to stop it 7 days before the procedure but at times we have to do the procedure urgently after three days and we have not encountered significant bleeding.

i 'am on blood thinning medication . can i check for genetic blood disorders while taking blood thinning?

Accepted Answer

Yes-any genetic test: If blood work is needed, be sure to elevate your arm, with pressure on the withdrawal site for several minutes, to prevent a nasty bruise. A pressure dressing should be applied.

is it safe to take garlic, tumeric, and sawpalmetto supplements daily? have read that they all have blood thinning properties?

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes, these are all safe to take daily. While they all may thin the blood somewhat, keeping our blood thin is a good strategy to prevent cardiovascular disease and strokes. You should be careful if you are taking pharmaceuticals that thin blood but in general it is good to keep our blood on the thin side and these are quite safe.

Tattoo: Getting a tattoo is always an infection risk. If there's bleeding, it will be considerably worse when taking anticoagulants. Not a good idea.

: You definitely should be worried about using Kratom that was deemed unsafe and ineffective as it affects the central nervous system, check mayoclinic.org. Not as much about the vaccine, you did the right thing, the combination of the 2 of them hard to predict. Think of stopping spending your money on unsafe substances.

i am 18 years old and i take modafinil three days a week at 50mg sublingual ,coffee for the rest 4 days, and omega 3 daily...i'm thinking of adding ginkgo biloba for it's cognitive benefits but afraid of the blood thinning effect, so is it okay?

: A brief comment:  several yrs ago, there was an extensive study from the Univ. of Pittsburgh Medical School, finding no significant or substantial cognitive value for Ginkgo Biloba.  So, save your money and do not search for "miracles" from Dr. Google!
