Accepted Answer

Probably not: Most women can wear tampons.  If you are having pain with a tampon, by all means, don't use one.  See your pcp/gyn and get checked out.  You very well may have a treatable reason for the pain such as an infection or other cause of irritation.  Your body is telling you the answer and what to do.  Listen to it.

had some rough sex last night and today i've been having lots of blood coming out. so much so that i have to wear a tampon, is this normal?

No it is not: If it is not time for your monthly period, then any significant bleeding requires a medical check up right away and make sure that you have not been injured inside.
If you do not have a doctor, you should go to an er and get checked for any traumatic injury/tear in your vagina.

No: Tampons should not cause pain!  Speak with your Gynecologist or Family Health Care Provider...your hymen may be the problem!

Yes: Avoid using a tampon for 2 weeks after a medical abortion. Some physician even recommend not using a tampon until your next period. Use a sanitary napkin if needed for spotting.  Most women experience their next period 4 to 6 weeks after a surgical abortion.

Brown = old blood: Sounds like an irregular period. Brown usually means old blood that has been sitting at the back of the vagina. If this is not typical for you then track your cycles for the next few months to see if they normalize. Often things get back to normal the next cycle. If you feel the discharge continues to be abnormal schedule  a visit for an exam

: Irregular menstrual periods are common. The fluctuations of estrogen and progesterone can be easily affected by stress, weight gain/loss, thyroid problems, and uterine issues such as adenomyosis or fibroids. If the symptoms persist, talk to your Dr about your irregular periods and what testing can be done to determine the cause.

No: If you had a regular period after unprotected sex, then it is a very safe assumption that that instance of sex did not lead to conception and pregnancy.  Implantation bleeding (bleeding at the time of a brand new pregnancy) would be unusually light and is typically just a bit of spotting if anything at all.  Rest assured that an abnormally heavy period would not be implantation bleeding.

Take it out: Tampons have been associated with pelvic infection.  If that tampon hurts you should not use it.

Depends: As long as you have a period and you can insert a tampon it doesnt matter the age.
