Possibly: A severe upper respiratory infection, sinus infection, or tonsillitis episode may cause so much inflammation that minor bleeding occurs (blood in sinus secretions or in phlegm from the throat). If the bleeding fails to resolve with the acute illness, you should be evaluated to be sure there is nothing else going on.

Most likely: This is fine, and for so e reason she had a lighter period this month. If she has been sexually active though, and had unprotected vaginal intercourse she may wish to take a pregnancy test at home just to be sure. If she is in a monogamous same gender relationship ship than there isn't a concern. If the mucous continues to be blood tinged, she needs testing for sexually transmitted infection.Bwell

May be a problem: You should consult with your physician or if you do not have one, go to an er. While coughing up blood (hemoptysis) can be seen after extreme fits of coughing, your current symptoms don't seem to fit that. And there are a number of concerning things that can present this way including tb.

Yes: Ducolax is a strong  laxative. Sometimes excessive stimulation can cause mucous and /or blood with BM  If it recurs without laxative stimulation, then see a doctor who can look inside your colon.

You could be dealing with an infectious process (tuberculosis, bronchitis, pneumonia etc.) on the other hand, you could be dealing with a bleeding ulcer or bleeding vessels in your esophagus. There are many potential causes, however a detailed history, exam, and diagnostic testing are in order.

See your doc: Small amounts of blood-tinged mucus can mean a bacterial infection. See your doc and get evaluated. More than a tbsp of blood is more worrying and, of course, if there is a lot more than that you should head to the Emergency Room.  If you have shortness of breath, constant chest pain, (not just when you cough), or fever over 101 F, you need to go to the ER in that case, too.  Hope you feel better!

No: But it does not mean you need to rush and get an antibiotic. Most upper respiratory bugs including viruses will cause discolored mucus. If this ha been present for more than 7-10 days, then it's time to see your physician.
