Accepted Answer

Not necessarily.: If the problem persists, see a gynecologist or family physician about the problem.   An exam and some simple blood tests (including a pregnancy test) can help sort this problem out.

i'm 42 on the pill for 19 years. missed 2 periods now in a row. took home preg. test..negative. could i be perimenopause? should i call my gyno?

Accepted Answer

Normal: Ocp amenorrhea. It is perfectly normal to have very light or absent cycles on long term birth control pill use. It is perfectly safe & not a sign of peri-menopause. In fact, you would have to stop hormone use if you wanted to check for menopause (average age 51-52). Continue your pills, make sure you are not pregnant & enjoy the side effect. Take care.

Probably yes: I suspect that the stress can result in disordered or even missed periods but let's see what the gynecologists say about this.  (others will answer, i'm sure).

Yes, but...: Check with your gyn doc to make sure nothing else, like fibriods, polyps, tumors occuring.

You could have PMS: Sx's prior to menses. 35 years old would definitely be pretty young for perimenopause. Premenstrual syndrome (pms) symptoms can include pelvic/ abdominal cramping, nausea,  bloating, weight gain, moodiness, irritability, pain ; swelling of breasts, feeling tired, insomnia, headaches, ^ acne, food cravings, ^ appetite, swelling of hands ; feet, dizziness, thinking less clearly, urinary sxs ;.

is it common for a woman in perimenopause to bleed very lightly for full month after missing 2  periods,i do not want to take hormones, what can i do?

No: This is not a usual pattern though that does not mean it is necessarily abnormal. Bleeding can be erratic and unpredictable in the perimenopausal period but persistent bleeding for a month should be investigated further.

A time of mixed mens: Perimenopause can be a time of too many or fewer menstruation.

Accepted Answer

Normal: What you described fit in with usual symptoms around menopause. If the symptoms persist beyond two weeks, it would be prudent to consult your gynecologist. You should use birth control for a year past your last period.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Menses: The character of menses changes over time.  The character of the flow does not matter as much as whether or not you are having any symptoms that could be attributed to menopause. Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness are more a harbinger of menopause than lighter flow.

i am 41 and for the past few years my periods have only lasted for a few days. is this normal at my age? is this the beginnings of perimenopause?

Maybe: This could be just normal variation. You  should talk with your doc and have some labs drawn.
