i think i may have a cold.  stuffy nose and a sore throat.  i plan on drinking a bunch of beer tonight, would that be bad for the sore throat?

Not a good idea: Even at your age sleep apnea can occur and with already being stuffy alcohol is not a good idea.   Generally we consider anything more than 2-3 beers/day associated with abuse.  That is we consider it toxic.  Intermittent binge drinking is considered even more toxic.

No: Drinking a "normal" amount of beer, such as one or two servings, should not make a sore throat worse. That means the reason one's sore throat is feeling worse would not be from his or her beer.

Accepted Answer

Probably not: But you should stay well hydrated when you are sick, and the caffeine in sodas is a diuretic, so you will lose some water from what you drank.  Make sure you drink plenty of water too.

It is OK: Do not take more then the recommended dosage, otherwise this is fine. The big difference between dayquil and nyquil is that nyquil has extra ingredients to make you sleepy. You should not take nyquil during the day unless you plan to spend the day in bed.

: This is an observed pattern for either viral infection or strep. In the absence of testing there is little more to say. If strep is confirmed and treatment is started within 10 days of 1st symptoms, you can avoid the later complications of untreated strep. A viral issue would eventually fade after a few weeks.

i have had really bad acid reflux for over 3 months now. what should i do? i feel like i have constant irritation in my throat and a constant sore throat/dry throat feeling so i have to drink water to keep it not dry.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. If you are overweight, losing weight will help  If you are not overweight it would be prudent to see your doctor.

Dr. can check throat: Throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), allergies or irritants, sinusitis, etc... Usually, one sees the doctor if the throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat and review details to see if influenza, laryngitis, bronchitis, etc., are present).

really bad cough and sore throat, doc gave me antibiotic. would drinking sleep time tea be okay? i also take enalapril and synthroid (thyroxine).

Sleep time: Drinking tea at sleep time is OK.
However, if your cough and sore throat is not getting better after one week of the antibiotic, go back to your doctor who will examine you and likely prescribe a different med.
