It should not.: Do you want your unborn baby to die? If this is the case, i would discuss your thoughts/ feelings with your physician.

i've been holding my breath while being around strong smells to the point that i could not hold it any longer have i caused damage to my unborn baby?

Accepted Answer

No: Unless you are holding your breath for unusually long times (like 4 minutes) it's unlikely your blood oxygen levels are getting dangerously low & even so it would be for such a short time that i doubt it could damage your baby.If the smells are due to toxic chemicals (like those in perfumes/ new paint/ new carpet/ tobacco smoke/plastics) you are doing your baby a favor by avoiding these exposures.

does holding your breath affect the unborn fetus? i had a nose bleed and the baby was kicking a lot as i applied pressure on one side of my nose.

It depends on: Whether it is a boy or a girl. In all seriousness it should have no effect.

No: Your blood carries enough oxygen around that this brief period has no effect on baby.I would not make it a practice of holding your breath when pregnant.You will pass out and fall, possibly injuring yourself long before baby is affected.

Possibly: Bad breath is not typical in an infant and could have many causes, most of which are not serious but could require intervention. Your child should be examined by their pediatrician to determine the cause of their bad breath.

: Twin pregnancies need all the oxygen that they can get from the mother/you.  Although I am not your treating OB and unaware of your maternal history, now that you have discontinued the breath holding practice your pregnancy can continue without that as a concern.

No: Typically a baby does not breath faster when he or she is sleeping. In fact a lot of times breathing is slower when they are sleeping.

Important: Answer depends on age. If the infant is under 3 months, apnea of 10 seconds is potentially abnormal and you should see your pediatrician.

Color, Breathing: Signs of circulation include good color (i.e. "pink" or rosy as opposed to blue, grey, or dusky appearance).  The baby should also be breathing easily and active.  But i would strongly recommend you immediately call 911 and take your child to the nearest er or pediatrician's office if you have to give rescue breaths.

See below: Highly unlikely. And, constipation would not alter the way your child's breath smells. Discuss with your doctor.
