Sure, but...: ...Stones in the gallbladder (gb) seldom cause symptoms unless they migrate into the neck of the gb (; block exit of bile) or into the common bile duct. Symptomless gallstones may be diagnosed by chance by imaging or during investigation for some other condition. Only 10% become symptomatic within 5 years of detection. Usually, symptoms are right upper quadrant radiating to right back ; scapula.

Gallstones possible.: That symptom complex you described could certainly be consistent with gallbladder pathology, including gallstones.

Yes 8 yr can have: Yes 8 yr old can have gall stones , bur rare, the pain may be due acute  gallbladder attachs, take him for exam and sono to see any evidence acute chole. ( then may require surgery ).

Accepted Answer

Yes: Unfortunately once you have symptoms, you are at risk for future symptoms and possibly more serious complications.  There are no reliable methods of removing the stones so the recommendation once a stone(s) is symptomatic, is cholecystectomy or gallbladder removal.  Since this can be done laparoscopically, it is essentially a same day (23 hour) procedure.

Think gallstones.: Although you should be always vigilant when it comes to breast cancer, if you have not detected anything like a lump on self exam, breast cancer should be the second thing in this case that you should think of.  Gallbladder pain from gallstones has right side pain around that area with radiation to the right shoulder blade area.  This can also be why your breast feels full.  See your dr. Asap.

Pain: if your doctor thinks that your pain is due to GERD but it is not responsive to the medications, then the next step would be a work up by a gastroenterologist. There are tests which can help sort this out. I would make an appointment as soon as you can. Good luck.

False.: Gallstones are composed of cholesterol and/or bilirubin (a metabolic product from the breakdown of old red blood cells).  Uric acid may cause kidney stones and gout.

Liver Blockage: On occasion, gallstones may exit the gallbladder and get stuck in the tube that connects the liver to the intestinal tract, called the bile duct.  Obstruction of the bile duct may impair liver function, leading to jaundice and abnormal elevation of the liver enzymes.  Stones in the bile duct can be much more serious than gallbladder stones and should be addressed urgently.

Not  lower back: Usually  not pain in lower back. Moderate to severe pain under the right side of the rib cage.pain may radiate through to the back around waist  or to the right shoulder,severe upper abdminal pain (biliary colic)

Partial blockage: If gallstones are passing from the gallbladder, down the cystic duct into the common duct and eventually into the duodenum there is risk. The risk of serious health consequence comes from partial or complete blockage of these ducts by the stone/stones. When the common duct is blocked, the lft lab test elevate. If the blockage is relieved, the lft return to normal. Get a right upper ultrasound.
