Brush and floss : The best oral hygiene practices are brushing with a fluoride containing toothpaste after every meal, flossing once a day and visiting the dentist for a professional cleaning and exam at least once a year and more often if you have any periodontitis.

Yes: Your priorities for a healthy mouth are brushing with a flouride toothpaste, flossing daily and seeing your dentist.  Using a mouth wash with flouride is great but not necessary.
Most mouthwashes are made to freshen your breath for a short period of time.
Pick one with flouride so it does two things instead of one.

Possibly...: But good dental hygiene consists of flossing and brushing with an effective dentifrice.And the use of a mouthwash is not an effective substitute and probably not much of  a supplement either. Furthermore, the long-term effects of alcohol-containing mouthwash has been the subject of concern over recent years expressed by the maxillofacial college .  I think your preference is an excellent idea.

corsodyl medicated mouthwash. how effective is this?

Adjunct only: I was not familiar with this product.  There are quite a number of similar products out there.  It contains Chlorhexidine gluconate which is an antimicrobial agent.   Proper tooth brushing and flossing, a healthy diet, and routine check-ups and periodontal (gum) care at your dentist are the best ways to prevent gum disease.  I suggest you ask your own dentist who is most familiar with your mouth.

Orally: If the problem is in the mouth, it would be better than nothing.  Advise visit a dentist to visually inspect the damage

Not really: These are viral, chlorhex is for bacteria. Try warm salt water rinses. Mostly a matter of waiting 10 -14 days to go away. Good luck.

No difference: The bacteria destroying aspects of mouthwash would be similar in effectiveness before or after brushing.
