Diuretics: You are concerned about potassium.  If your potassium is indeed low (which is not always the case)  bananas would be one good means to increase dietary potassium.    This is at the expense of a few calories.   So i would do it only if your doctor has a concern in your potassium.

Good idea: Banana is rich in potassium and help  replenishing the potassium loss from water pill . You may need to check your potassium level from time to time though.

my potassium was randomly at 3.3 last nov, so i ate a high potassium diet for 2 weeks and it went up to 4.0 but now its back at 3.4. what causes it to keep dropping? i eat bananas & spinach every day & no diuretics, exercise, diarrhea or vomiting

Low potassium: There are other tests to look for a cause, but just treating a lab finding without other symptoms, isn't advisable.  Your potassium is at lower normal range, in absence of symptoms or other apparent cause as medications, I wouldn't be concerned, if still , you may want to see an endocrinologist who may order more tests, a simple one would be spot urine potassium check or other tests, good luck

Depends: It is a good medication to have in certain conditions like obesity and hypertension, sleep apnea and hypertension, hyperaldosteronism and htn. Used along with Benicar (olmesartan) there can be a concern for high potassium levels- your doc can monitor that.

i stopped taking amlodipine 10mg and a water pill because of dizziness and  swelling, i now take atenolol and water pill. all ok, is this good?

Yes: as long as your BP is still under control it should be fine.

For some patients: ARBs are a good choice for high blood pressure in some patients, and can be used without a diuretic. However, the best choice of medication is based on the other conditions a patient has, the other medications they are taking, race, and how high the blood pressure is. Your doctor will be able to make a recommendation for which medication is right for you.

i'm on hbp medications; diuretics, lisnopril and clopidogrel. my bp has been under good control, but i still feel tired climbing long stirs/hills. i do have at least 40mins of walking 4/5 times weekly. does not affect my normal daily activities. why?

Intensity : Climbing stairs/hills is a more intense activity than walking. It may be just a matter of conditioning. Try increasing the intensity of your walking exercise by carrying weights. If you use a treadmill, set it at gradually increasing incline.
It is good that you get regular exercise.

Talk to your Dr: This is a fine thing to discuss w/ the Dr who is treating you.r BPH. They should know about all things you take and can explain reasons to or not to use supplements. Best!
