Not at first: When you first get "a stomach flu bug", your gut may protest it by trying to shut down altogether.  In this stage you feel the nausea and vomiting, because stuff just does not want to go through.  It's usually later that the body tries to "wash out the virus" by dumping more fluids in the gut to try and wash out the virus - and then boom, diarrhea. So early on you may not poop at all.

Fever,stomach ache: Fever, abdominal pain, sometimes cough and congestion, and rash are not uncommon.

Usually not: Light grey stool can be due to blockage of bile flow. If he has jaundice (yellow eyes), especially if he's an infant, he needs to be evaluated for liver disease (biliary atresia if infant).

A Japanese bug...: Whenever one travels and eats in a foreign country, their are different types of bacteria, parasites and other organisms that reside normally in the residents of that land (colonization), but are foreign to foreigners. So 'trot' over to your gp, or a gastroenterologist or infectious disease doc. Tests for parasites like giardiasis, pathogenic e. Coli, tapeworm, will likely be done. Happy trails...

i'm having abdominal cramps every now and then and sometimes diarrhea. no other symptoms of gastroenteritis. what could this be? it's been going on for 2 days and i've been feeling slightly weaker than usual but really no other symptoms?

: Drink enough electrolyte solution to stay hydrated. You may take an Imodium or PeptoBismol. If the symptoms do not resolve in a day or so, it would be prudent to see your doctor.

Initially, yes: Vomiting is a presenting symptom with intestinal viral illness, since it is often a secondary infection to respiratory viral illnesses, but with peristalsis and gravity to assist viral exposure, the lower GI tract eventually gets exposed and symptoms will progress to abdominal pain , cramping, and diarrhea, mucous in stool, and in severe cases GI bleeding

Include low grade fever to begin with, but can get upto 104f; sneezing, coughing, pharyngitis, weakness, fatigue, malaise, anorexia, pneumonia with sob or pleuritic chest pain, nasal discharge, ear infection, prostration, dehydration;etc. Treatment, may include, acyclovir, an antiviral; antibiotics; IV hydration, hand washing; keeping separate towels, covering mouth & future vaccination.

Not unsual: for some stomach viruses to have BIPHASIC symptomatology (Symptoms occur then subside, then recur!!)  WASH HANDS...KEEP DISHES SEPARATE

Enteritis: It sounds as if you have little or anything to worry about. If the diarrhea returns and persists, then you might want to see a doctor. The color of the stool has no relevance.
