: This suggests an early stage of iron deficiency, most likely from monthly blood loss during menses. A high total iron binding capacity would document that you do have early stage iron deficiency.   I recommend taking an iron supplement daily.

been taking iron supplements for 5 weeks, hb increased from 9.8 to 11.7. blood tests came back fine except rdw(27.8)being high. should i discontinue?

Ask your doctor: The doctor who gave you Iron pills is the one who can guide you better. iron is typically continues till after your hemoglobin is &gt;12 grams.. You do not need to worrry about RDW...just hemoglobin value is all you need to watch.

hello i been taking iron supplements 65mg a day for two months and im worried that i have iron overload i didnt need them i self medicated my cbc came our normal but they didnt test anything iron related at the er?

Any time: It all depends on the initial plan of care and ideally you want to check with your prescriber about follow up tests. You do not have to be off iron supplements to be rechecked for anemia. Merci beaucoup et a bientot!

i have been feeling very tired and dizzy and i had blood tests done. i received the results today that show low iron and i have been prescribed iron supplements. is it safe to drive a car? my level was 6,3 saturation 8% ferritin 24

Anemia: It sounds like you have low blood counts and are having symptoms consistent with this. You may want to discuss either a blood transfusion or iron by an IV to boost your blood counts with your doctor.  If you are concerned enough to ask the question of whether you should drive, you should probably wait until your blood counts improve or drive with someone to else in the passenger seat.

can taking 65 mg iron supplements for 3.5 weeks cause cirrhosis of the liver? gallbladder issues? ct scan in march showed normal healthy liver. blood tests all came back normal except a/g ratio was 2.4. albumin was 4.8 which is normal for me?

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, your iron intake will not cause cirrhosis . Wish you good health!

why does my natures bounty iron supplements smell like vinegar? the target brand of iron i usually get never has any smell. the expiration date is 2023?

: Suggest you contact the store where purchased, and ask the local pharmacist if present, why there is an aroma to your supplements.  Alternatively, you could contact manufacturer via phone, email, or snail mail.

See below: Iron sulfate and iron fumerate are the more commonly prescribed iron pills. The fumerate compounds are more easily absorbed and are more easy on the GI tract.

Yes: Getting a repeat blood test to look at anemia can be helpful to decide if you should continue to take iron tablets.
