Usually  born with: Benign tumor of blood vessels. Usually congenital, but not discovered until noted on a test done for other reasons; usually no symptoms (unless large and/or bleed); may be associated with hormonal  changes, e.g. Birth control pills, ivf rx.

Trauma: I would think that trauma, such as the dashboard of a car or an airbag hitting your chest where the hemangioma is would cause it to burst.

Many answers: This is very difficult to do, AND usually very expensive.  Many of us have an internal hemangioma somewhere in our body, but they rarely cause a problem.  If you have a family history of familial hemagiomatosis, then you should get checked-usually by a vascular surgeon or phlebologist.

Probably nothing: If the red spots on your skin are cherry hemangiomas / "Campbell de Morgan spots", relax, they mean absolutely nothing. Maybe one person has a hemangioma or two or three in the liver and it's a non-issue itself -- a Gorbachev birthmark, a curiosity. Be thankful for good health.

what does this mean?  't2 vertebral body lesion. differential possibilities include an atypical hemangioma vs less likely primary neoplasm of the vertebra. recommend a ct of the thoracic spine to evaluate for the internal architecture of the lession?

: All imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that,  a CT examination of the spine is warranted, as advised you your doctor.
