Ask her eye doctor: who knows her condition for the most reliable answer.  When there is a significant accomodative esotropia, glasses help to relieve the stress on the eye muscles but is not always effective and surgery may be required to balance the muscles.  Identifying the problem early, as you did, is helpful to preserve vision, as long term misalignment of the eyes can lead to vison loss known as amblyopia

After esotropia surg: If you already had surgery to fix esotropia, you need to follow your surgeon's advice. Use the antibiotic ointment (possibly containing a steroid) that your doctor prescribed. Keep all follow up appointments. If your surgeon advised you to wear glasses and / or patch an eye, do it. If you have a weaker eye that has been strengthened, follow your doctor's directions to keep it strong.

Cosmetic goal: Correction of the misalignment will not usually change the vision, so that drifting is still possible as vision in both eyes maintains alignment.  Surgery gets the eyes close together but will not hold time in position if the vision is not good in each eye so drifting is possible.  The goal then is limit the drift to a cosmetically acceptable level and hope it holds for a while.

Yes: Accommodative estotropia is due to the eyes being farsighted.  It is normal for the eyes to turn in to focus on near or for reading.  However, in this case just for looking at distance the eyes turn in to overcome the farsightedness. One or both eyes will develop amblyopia. IF THE EYES are not kept aligned with glasses.  This is critical in the early development.

Yes: In some cases, the glasses or contact lens prescription can be reduced and the eyes will still stay straight.  At your age, this is unlikely.

Long past due: This is the 21st century and your esotropia should have been corrected surgically when you were a kid. Please forgive my frankness. If you're meeting the public, you can be the smartest, nicest and most capable professional and if you're cross-eyed, it'll be what people remember. Please get this taken care of.
